There is nothing quite like the experience of recording music. I've been writing away for my upcoming album while attending school full time to learn the technical aspect of recording. I recorded a demo for one of my new songs with my lab group for a recording class at school. Just thought I'd let you in on a sneak preview of what I've been writing. For any audio nerds reading this, it may interest you to know that we experimented with the sound of the piano pedal played alone as a percussive instrument. I think I mixed it too softly, but it comes across as a texture under the rest of the mix. Press play on the music player to the right to have a listen. I also threw together some random segments from our recording session in the video below for your viewing pleasure. Don't forget to leave me a comment! Have a lovely day.
(A special thanks to my awesome lab partners, Robby Sorensen and Nate Young!)

Wow this song is a real departure from your other material. My fav cd of all time was your first album but I listened to this four times in a row and I really like it, it is so new and makes you feel good listening to it. I haven't heard anything like this before. I really love the lyrics, they make alot of sense, I can relate to them. I love the tune it feels surprisingly full despite it's simple arrangement. I LOVE it! Well done! I'm so excited for the album now!
ReplyDeletethis is almost as lovely as you.

ReplyDeleteHi, Mindy. I was recently given your latest album, "Feather In Ihe Wind", and I am now an avid fan. I have to let you know that you have a gorgeous voice, you look absolutely GORGEOUS, and you have a beautiful family. You are a real inspiration to me, as well as lots of other young women around the world.
ReplyDeleteI am 17, and I recently had to put my rabbit down. I literally broke my heart. I know it sounds dumb, but I came home that night, and listened to "Long Lost Child", and it just seemed to comfort me (which is EXACTLY what I need at that time).
I love listening to your music, and I wish you good luck on your upcoming album! God bless you.
Mmmmmmmmm, NICE!
ReplyDeleteThank you for each one of your comments. Cassie, I am sorry about your rabbit! Sounds like the time my hamster died and I didn't find out until my Dad had made a bonfire and was goibng to throw it in. Sorry for the vivid imagery. :-)
ReplyDeleteAwwww! This video takes me back! Studio Y looks pimped out since I was there!! I feel like I would have to learn it all over again to go in there! Where's the ADAT machine??? Hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this tune BTW! Keep it up!
Beautiful. Understated. I love it.
ReplyDeleteHi, yesterday I stumbled upon your blog and was instantly captivated by your song "Anchor".
ReplyDeleteMy children were close by and they too asked for it to be played again and again.
It has such a sweet melody and lyric. I couldn't help but notice there might be a second voice to it which would make it even greater.
Very pretty. And as usual, good lyrics. It feels like a lullaby and with the first line of lyrics it makes me think of that old short film, "The Red Balloon." I wonder what you were thinking as you wrote this.
ReplyDeleteI love it. Nice work, as always.
ReplyDeleteI love the "dead roses". I can totally hear Jackson saying that.
Also, I have always thought that having that huge house a little out of the way, but not so far away for you is so great. Maybe someday I'll see it. I bet it's awesome.
That self photo of Jackson makes him look 13! He is a handsome boy - they both are.
Love ya!
I love it! I can't wait to here the entire album!
ReplyDeleteYay! A teaser of more to come! I love your music and can't wait for the new album. It was fun to see a little of the "assignment" you were working on.
ReplyDeleteNever commented before...but couldn't pass up the opportunity to tell you the song is fantastic. I love the sound, I love the texture. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. I love the simplicity of it. Are you going to add anything else to the song (instruments, effects, etc.)?
