Did You Know?

One thing about me that you might not know is that I am sort of a loner. Being alone is one of my favorite treats. Consequently, only a few people out there know me well enough to know that I:

1.) Am gluten sensitive.
2.) Sleep with my socks pulled over my PJ bottoms and my shirt tucked in. (Sexy visual, I know.)
3.) Used to barrel race horses.
4.) Speak fluent Spanish.
5.) Used to wear head gear.
6.) Have gone bunjee jumping several times.
7.) Love to have my hair played with more than ANYTHING in this world.
8.) Didn't make the high school chamber choir.
9.) Didn't make student government.
10.) Gave the speech at honor's night, but didn't get a scholarship.
11.) Was the homecoming queen.
12.) Tried out for Miss Provo. Not even a runner up.
13.) Signed a record deal.
14.) Left the record company to be an independent.
15.) Don't know what the heck I'm doing in life half the time.
16.) Feel like I could conquer the world if I wanted to the other half.

We all have a polished as well as a quirky side to our personalities. Successes as well as disappointments. These things shape us.

What is something about YOU that I might not know?

  2. something you might not know is that you wrote me a card when i was a senior in high school so...like 5 years ago...and it was one of the sweetest notes i've ever gotten and i keep it in my "special" box and pull it out whenever i am feelin down. you're the best! love you!

  3. my father bought my sister and I a motorcycle the year I turned 6 and I used to ride.

And...despite repeated attempts I never made the cheerleading squad and ended up on the swim team (what all the LDS girls did in my high school).

  4. I occasionally eat dry ramen noodles with the seasoning packet sprinkled on top and I HAVE to have a glass of milk with it. It nearly sends Kenny into convulsions when he sees it.

Wow, that WAS liberating. We should do this every week.

  5. Marylin, thanks for the sweet email!
Kaycie, aw shucks. That is so cute. I love you.
Heather, I want a motorcycle. And swim team rocks.
Jess, I love you more with every confession. And those farming pics of you are hot.

  6. Here is something I have never told anyone... I felt really small and insignificant in middle school, so I got my school picture and a little write-up on myself and submitted it to the New Era. Within 6 months, it was published. I acted surprised it was in there & pretended to wonder who sent it in but felt like a celebrity nonetheless. Actually, I still feel like a celebrity when I look at it.

  7. I hate to admit it, but I never NEVER watch the news. Hate it. Can't stand the depressing headlines and tragic stories. I feel like it takes all my energy as it is just to keep up with what's going on in our home and with our extended family. It's horrible, I know. I never have a clue what's going on in the 'real world'. Hubby dearest is actually trying to intervene by emailing me a few "must know" stories now and then. I'm pathetic.

  8. I am left-handed and I was born cross-eyed! There's two random facts about me :)

  9. I am in INFP. Google it! I think its good reading. And I have a sneaking hunch you are one too. :) You can find out here: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp. (BTW, its my experience that this test is often, but not always spot on. I can recommend some good sources if you want.)

  10. Hmmm...We have a lot in common, Mindy. Yes, head gear wearer...love being alone...DID make chamber choir, sorry...and sometimes I'm not sure if I even LIKE kids...hmmmm....better reassess my life, got three of my own, drive the bookmobile and teach the nine year olds in Church. Hmmm...

  11. You don't know me, but we do have a few things in common: LOVE to have my hair played with! LOVE. I, too, am the mother of boys (5) and not a one seems to think it's very cool to brush and/or play with their mother's hair (Norman Bates anyone??). Weird, right? :)
I got married quite young, so I didn't have much alone time, and I realized this conundrum at a certain point in child rearing where I considered that hospitalization and/or prison sounded like a good option. I could just be ALONE for a few minutes and maybe get a book read...
My husband and I went sky diving in Hawaii on our 25th anniversary. I recommend it. However, did it...don't need to do it again. I've also bungee jumped.
I didn't make Madrigals in high school and it still bugs me - 30 years later. Hacks.
P.S. I'm new to the Mindiverse...I met you at Girl's Camp where you spoke and sang. I've been a rabid fan ever since. (I'm the one who said your pictures are gorgeous but you are more beautiful in person...and, we're new friends on facebook. Don't be afraid, I'm a non-threatening stalker.) Lori (dunnthat)

  12. Gerb, that is seriously AWESOME.

Lisa, I HHHHATE watching the news. You're not alone. And I'm not ashamed. Even E. Holland says to try turning off the news.

Megan, we are definitely related. It's almost scary.

Stacey, I don't get it. Help?

Lori, we have a lot in common too. Are we related? I too have considered the psych ward and/or prison. I remember your sweet comment, but can't remember which girls camp! Sorry.

I'm loving your comments. Keep 'em coming!

  13. Since you don't really know me at all- I could share any number of things with you. Hmmm. Let's see...I was a foster mom for about a year (ended up adopting our last placement!) I highly recommend being a foster parent.

I was in the video Together Forever when I was in 8th grade and was growing out a very bad perm and hair cut- yikes! (I don't tell anyone about it because it truly is painful to watch!)

I was a clogger in middle school- and still clog in my kitchen when no one is around.

And here's one more. I have your CD's in my car and I listen to them as I drive to school before every big test- or whenever I am feeling stressed. Your songs help me to focus and calm my nerves. Thank you!!

  14. Sandy Crescent Stake girls camp, July 16th (?) near Scofield. I know you do these a lot...glad to be remembered in any sense :) You did a superb job. You have a very important message and the girls...and I...were on the edge of their benches. Very powerful. Thank you so much for being there.
I love the snippets on your blog about your boys, (I include the Glediator in this), especially your youngest (still can't stop laughing about the tender kisses). I talked to him while I was waiting to talk to you. I asked what his name was. He gave me the most hysterical wide-eyed, furrowed brow "don't you dare" look. I smiled and started talking about other things...how pretty it was up there, I liked his shoes, stuff like that. His face relaxed and I thought it was safe enough to ask his name again. There was that look again. Oh my goodness...I love this kid. He's a spitfire. I can certianly relate...
I would be thrilled to be related :)
(Sorry my comments are so long...I don't know how to say anything short...it's hereditary :)

  16. Hey Mindy! I met you at the Workshop the other day. I'm the weird one who kept on saying how much I love you and Hilary ha! Anyway, if you go to my blog, you can see the picture I had that funny guy take of us. Then you'll know who I am :) I admire you, your voice, and your music. You have no idea what a difference you've made in my life. Child of light is one of my FAV!!!!! I'm naming my daughter after that meaning. Gretal means "Child of light" :)

  17. You don't know me at all, but I check in on your blog now and then. Found you through the Nie Nie blog.
I really enjoy reading what you have to say and find you real and down to earth - something I appreciate.
So since you have no idea who I am, I thought you might find it intersting to know that I have been told by several people to have a very beautiful voice, but I get SOOOOOO nervous to sing in front of people. In a choir - no problem. Solo or duet - break out in cold sweats and have my voice get all tight and then it doesn't sound good at all. I would be the first to admit that given the choice, I would choose to give a 45 minute talk in front of a packed crowd at the Marriot Center instead of get up and sing a hymn in church on Sunday.
I totally wish I could over come this, but I have little hope.
I'm just glad that there are people like you who aren't afraid to share their talents and have such gifts for all of us to enjoy.

  19. Mindy, by now this might sound repetitive, but I also don't know you personally, although I knew your sisters and your husband's family a bit. We were all in the same BYU ward, so although I don't know you, sometimes I feel like I do. I love your music and I'm so glad I found your blog (from your website...I went there looking to see if you sell your music for piano and voice...do you, by chance?). Anyway, here are a few things you don't know (obviously) 1. I have most of your songs memorized and I've since noticed my 2 1/2 yr. old daughter is starting to as well. I love to hear her sing, "I will rest in you...I will rest in you..." over and over again. It makes my heart melt. 2. I love to sing and a favorite past time of mine (okay, present as well) is gathering around the piano and singing with my family. We all sing in English and my dad will sometimes sing in spanish or whistle. He reminds me of Roger Whittaker, a favorite folk singer of mine. 3. I use to dream of recording cds and seeing them at Deseret Book. I would sing in the shower and just know that somehow I could do it. 4. Confession: I still do sing in the shower and I still dream of making a cd. At least one. What can I say? I'm a daydreamer. There's nothing wrong with that, right?

  20. I used to have short hair, like a boy, when I was like 10. And I was mistaken for a "good little boy scout" by an old lady.

I can't make fudge, even if it was to save my family from a fate worse than death.

I peed on the 50 yard line at Provo High.

I am shockingly good at catching things. Keys being thrown across the room, baseballs, dirty diapers etc.

I was an extra on "Yo Gabba Gabba".

    And I am so cool.

  21. That i just wanted my wife to have a clean kitchen to wake up to... and i filled the dishwasher too full and the door did not shut tight and so it flooded everywhere. So now she will wake up to a clean kitchen and a mopped floor and a tired husband.

That I am shy and quiet and i appreciate everyone who does kind things for people. Mindy, just remembering my name was a huge deal to me. Thank you for everything you do for everyone in your life.
