Home Girl Chat Room

My six sisters and I have this thing we call "Home Girl Chat Room" or "HGCR." I know. We make stupid names up for things all the time. Anyway, the purpose of HGCR is to share via email, our favorite new beauty products, recipes, and discoveries of all types (many of which would be too inappropriate for this blog - unless you like talking about colon cleanses.)

I thought I would share a few of mine with you in hopes that in return, you'll share some of yours with me. So check it out:

  • Favorite cheap beauty product: Jergens Firming Natural Glow. I'm an advocate for protecting one's skin from the sun and I find this lotion a great, natural looking alternative to getting a tan. In fact, you won't look like you have a full on tan, but it gives you just enough color.
  • Favorite herbal supplement: Zyflamend. I take it to prevent waking up with a sore, stiff body. It really helps. Am I getting old? Find it at your whole foods store.
  • Favorite eye cream: Lancome Renergie Lift for eyes. I love this stuff.
  • Favorite Skin Care Line: Proactiv. You've heard Jessica Simpson and Vanessa what's-her-face say it over and over again. And now I have a testimony too. If only I got paid to endorse it.
  • Favorite Massage: Seated thirty minute massage (I like Remedez in Orem, UT). It's cheaper and way more effective for my sore shoulder muscles when I'm sitting up.
  • Favorite Indulgence: Maestro's Gelato on Center St. in Provo, UT. And if their gelato wasn't heavenly enough, now they have European pizza that is to DIE for.
Ok, I think I should post more of these later, but that will do for now. Alright. Go knock yourself out and try a few. Don't forget to let me know what you think!

MOST REFRESHING DRINK: Clementine Izzes, found at Macey's, Good Earth and Target.

BEST SUGAR COOKIES ON EARTH: Provo Bakery. Enough said.

BEST PLACE TO FIND AN AMAZING DEAL ON CRAZY SOCKS: Sears.

  4. oh man I'll have to try that supplement. i wake up like that everyday. i think it's our mattresses fault, but I'm too cheap to buy us a nice one.
here are a couple of mine:
FAVORITE PLACE TO MAKE QUICK MONEY: Platos Closet. This ones for those trendy dressers out there. Seriously, take in your old stuff before you hand it to DI, you might make a couple dollars.
FAVORITE SUPPLEMENT: Chlorophyll. (add the liquid to water, or just pick up the gel caps) it's really good for the blood, and is also a natural deodorizer for the breath.
FAVORITE RANCH DRESSING: isn't it hard to find what tastes like homemade heaven? not anymore, i have to pick up the ranch from the BYU Creamery (their brand).
BEST FROZEN YOGURT: There are lots of options out there these days, and my favorite is YOZONE off Freedom & Bulldog. Yum.

    The end.

  5. Megan, you can be a part of HGCR anytime.

Arica, I like your ideas. I'm going to try taking a few items to Plato's closet. And I love the way Chlorophyll makes me feel. I used to take it and now I want to start up again!

  7. I need to add to your Remedez recommendation: Jeremy. His hands are the size of dinner plates. My favorite massage therapist. Hooray!

  8. my favorite makeup is bare minerals... a bit expensive, but I love it...

Also for skin care, my dermatologist prescribed me a new thing called aczone, and it's SO AMAZING... keeps my skin so incredibly clear and leaves it feeling super soft when I wake up in the morning.

I just tried the gelato shop last month when I was in Provo, and it's divine... (I live in SLC). Mmmm... yummy! The pizza there is good too!

Also, the best diet coke is definitely at Sonic, and I get it with Cherry... yum yum!

  10. Oh I love hearing about people's favorite things! It's like being on Oprah! :)

Here are a few of mine:

Favorite way to save time: Google Reader! Can I just say that this has saved me hours a week reading my favorite blogs- what a great tool!

Favorite frozen yogurt: Yogurt Vibes in South Jordan!!! So dang yummy!

Favorite hairspray: freeze it! I am a hairspray snob of sorts and I have tried many brands and this one, hands down is my favorite. Not too much water in it, doesn't make your hair crunchy, adds the right amount of shine, and holds great! And it's under $4 at Wallyworld! Bonus!

I guess that's all i can think of for now. :)

  15. I loved reading this blog entry and the comments. I am excited to try some really awesome recommendations and hope I can inspire someone with mine:

Favorite Mascara - Aveda Mosscara (conditioning formula with Iceland moss) color of choice: black forest

Favorite Eye Makeup Remover - Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover. I've never found anything that works better.

Favorite Way to Rent Movies - Netflix! I honestly didn't know how it worked until a friend told me and then I had to try it: I have $13.99 debited from my account each month and I can rent two movies at a time. I can keep them as LONG as I want or return them right away to get something different. Postage is paid so there are no additional costs. Movies can be exchanged an UNLIMITED number of times through the mail. WOW! They have a huge selection of movies, TV series & kids stuff too.

Favorite New Idea - getting my nose hairs waxed. That's right: the hairs INSIDE my nostrils. I prefer going to Azalea Day Spa in Pleasant Grove. Its cheap, painless and the results are amazing.

Favorite Dietary Supplement - Cordy Max Stamina Boost by Pharmanex. Taken 2 to 3 times daily with meals. Amazing. This is the ONLY way I was able to work full time on the graveyard shift plus take care of my kids during the day for 11 months!

Favorite Place to Buy Unique Shoes - Buckle. They have super cute styles and they're comfortable too.

Favorite Bottled Water - Smart Water. Lots of times you can find it on sale at Walmart or Albertsons. It really tastes good and it has electrolytes in it so its great for any time you are active.

Favorite Ice Cream - I'm always telling people I love Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream and its true I do love it. But I have discovered that Kirkland Signature makes the SAME thing in a larger quantity for a much cheaper price. Sold at Costco in the freezer section. It literally tastes identical. My question for you: is having MORE ice cream really better? Oh well.
