All the Possibilities

One of my goals in life is to be brave enough to face all the possibilities that are out there for me. It's much, much easier to resign to the idea that something is "impossible" as opposed to "totally possible" for oneself. So when Kaskade asked me to be in a music video for one of his upcoming new songs, "Eyes," (which I also sing), I went ahead and said, "Yes," inspite of the fact that I'm 9 months along.

My mind fought it and made up all kinds of ridiculous stories about why I shouldn't shoot a music video at 9 months pregnant:
Women who are 9 months along don't do this sort of thing.
This is dance music. You need sex appeal for dance music. You got nothin'.
Your face will be swollen.
You have acne.
There is no maternity outfit in the world that could work for this.
And so on and so forth.

Matt Eastin (who directed my music video for "Anchor,") is one of my favorite people to work with.

Luckily, through the mentoring of some amazing people I've met in my adventures in music, I've come to recognize these falsehoods when they surface. I'm learning how to step into my power as a woman and an artist while allowing myself to be more than enough at all stages of life. I wish the same for you too.

"Eyes" releases on August 9th, 2011.

  1. You are truly amazing, Mindy. And sexy, even at nine months. Gorgeous, gorgeous, truly. And way to come from a place of yes, even when you weren't so keen at first. My instinct would also be to shy away at an opportunity like that, so damn girl! I am proud of you. I can't wait to see the video.

  8. Congratulations on the arrival of your little angel!! :)
I LOVE listening to your music & watching your music videos. After buying all of your music on itunes I have put some as background music in some of my YouTube videos. A lot of my young teen fans are now becoming huge fans of you also ( http://www.youtube.com/user/freshblush#p/u/40/bsEZQyzEz1w). I'd love to have permission to use your music on my YouTube channel but will take it off immediately if not.
I am also a huge fan of Stuart Brawley's work and it would be my dream to someday intern for Backyard studios.
Best of luck & lots of love! <3 erin

  9. Hi Mindy, My name is Robyn Tibbitts Miner. My brother Jay Tibbitts played drums with you up in Idaho this past summer (I think you guys even got stranded on the side of a road when your car broke down, maybe I got the story wrong...but I think it was something like this?). Anyway, love your music and loved your concert with Stephanie Nielson's girls singing "Golden Slumbers". I wasn't sure how to contact you, but I wanted to share something with you. My friend Ani is in my ward and lost her sweet baby girl Ruby Jane Taylor early this morning to liver failure. She's been suffering for the past 5 months and has written about her daughter's story on her blog. I know she is a big fan of yours and sang "There is no me without you" to her every day while she was in the hospital. I just wanted to share her blog with you and let you know how much you've touched her life. I was also going to beg you to come sing at her funeral next Tuesday in Southern Califonia, but from the comments on your blog, it sounds like you just had a baby so that might be out of the question. Here is the link to Ani's blog: http://aniandmatttaylor.blogspot.com/2011/06/there-is-no-me-if-i-cannot-have-you.html (If you would like to contact me so you can email her or leave her a comment, I'm sure she would treasure it.) robynminer@gmail.com (I don't want to post her email on your blog without her permission). Thanks Mindy!
