Business is a daily subject of conversation in our home. My husband and I are both business owners and the boys are quite the entrepreneurs themselves. Last week the boys set up a grocery store in the living room several times and over the weekend my youngest was intent on earning enough money to buy a "pillow pet." Saturday's cookie sale boasted a total earnings of $8! (Thanks to all of our neighbors.)
This last week of Music Success in Nine Weeks has caused me to reflect on the business strategies I've been learning about. How will I tie all of these together? Certainly a plan of continuum for the things I've implemented is in order. I'll be piecing that plan together during the next few days. I'm envisioning some cool events to keep things alive around here. How about a private concert for my main blog readers where you can hear my new songs before the upcoming album is released? A podcast could be cool. Ooh, I've always wanted to do a tour where I throw a benefit concert for someone in your town . . .
Here's an idea:
Post a creative idea of your own on how to keep my fans involved and I will mail a free CD of my album "Feather in the Wind" to a randomly selected commenter.
I know it's not summer yet, but backyard concerts for your fans and their friends and family would be really cool.
ReplyDeleteBake them cookies, of course!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a benefit concert, particularly if you collaborated with local artists to make it more of a community thing. Get other artists with (maybe not similar sounds) but similar goals and values to team up with you and raise money for a great cause that is close to home.
Oooh! I love the blogger preview concert idea! Sooo great! Can't think of anything better than that, but I'll let you know if I do. You're amazing and your boys are so cute!
ReplyDeletePeople love recognition, so maybe some kind of video singing a little shout out to specific fans?
ReplyDeleteI agree with earlier posters. I like the idea of a benefit concert. I also like the idea of giveaways and perhaps even a "live chat" from time to time?
ReplyDeleteLove your music!
PS. Can contact via twitter (I'm following via @sarahbelleisk) or http://kontactr.com/user/meluvfreebies if I win :-)
Do a live video broadcast where you answer you top asked questions, or perform a songs
ReplyDeleteCould you write a song for a family that has lost a baby??? THAT I would LOVE. Maybe you could write a song for a lucky fellow blogger! OR you could just sing "DON'T worry, BE happy" {I loved that}. Post some live video of you singing on your blog! You could even do a LIVE chat performance every friday. Us fellow bloggers would sooooo look forward to hearing your songs live every week, on whichever day you would choose.
ReplyDeleteThat. would. be. fun. Regardless, you rock!
those were the best sugar cookies i've ever had. (:
ReplyDeleteGreat comments, guys. I love these ideas!
ReplyDeleteLots of your fans aren't near enough for a personal concert. . . but a teleconcert or a podcast would be wonderful. Also you might ask for stories and then write a song about the winner's situation?
ReplyDeleteMindy, I have always been a fan especially when I heard you sing for the first time at some ward activity we had years ago. I kept telling Paul that if she ever got a CD out I would definitely buy it! And look at you now. You are amazing! I love being a fan!
ReplyDeleteHey Mindy!
ReplyDeleteI am currently part of a charity foundation call Charity Anywhere. We are looking for opportunities to raise money for medical, dental and hygiene supplies. You can check out their website http://www.charityanywhere.org/. I was thinking in place of addmission to your concert people could donate the supplies needed ie. firstaid kits, children's medicine, oral hygiene supplies, etc. Let me know if you want to get involved:)
Have your fams promote you through facebook and other networks to create awareness and make it a contest and the winners get a signed c.d or c.d.'s. I also like the idea of writing a song for/with a blogger. Concerts are always cool as well.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at Free CD. Oh, and the pictures are cute too.
ReplyDeleteMindy! Don't make me learn about my son's naughtiness on your blog! How big was the rock? Was Thatch hurt? I'm so sorry. I'll go beat him in his sleep...
ReplyDeleteYour cookies were awesome. I must borrow your cutters some time. I think we got the biggest bang for our buck. Thanks for all the freebies.
Love how Thatcher eats his own product.
ReplyDeleteBusiness idea? If I were you, I would write one, two, three, maybe four that you just put out there for free. Use it as a draw to your site, etc. Or even do a small benefit album where the profits are donated to a good cause.
I like the idea of a podcast or the livechat... I also like the idea of asking about live experiences to your fans and then write a song about it. What about a vblog? Or maybe some videos of you singing in your concerts. That would make us feel as if we where there!
ReplyDeleteOh! Please, send us the recipe of those yummy cookies in your next newsletter. Pleeeeeeaseeeeeee! Thanks!
I'd settle for a free cookie!
ReplyDeleteShe Made Mention...I Don't know if you'll ever read this, but there is a song called "Held" by Natalie Grant that was written just for that reason... It's not Mindy, but I think you'd love it just the same. Everyone has great ideas!
ReplyDeleteVirtual tour via the blogs of your fans, possibly with podcast to go with it? That way all of your fans around the world can get a chance to interact with you!
ReplyDeleteOK, so I was also thinking that you could do a community college songwriting workshop tour, follow it in the evening with a concert and have someone there to sell your CD's. There's one in particular in AZ that is all about the music- Eastern AZ College in Thatcher, AZ. I think that kind of a thing would be a big hit, plus they have a really nice auditorium. I'm from there- let me know if I can give you a contact name or help organize from afar (I live in MX). Would love to help!
ReplyDeleteI like paying for your music, Mindy. It's worth it! I imagine most of those of us who follow you frequently enough fit into that category. I like that I can follow you enough to keep up, but not feel like I have to know everything all the time. I think your idea about a blogger concert is a fantastic idea. Of course, the fact that I fit into that category makes it easy to agree with. Still, I love it. I've never done a podcast before. I think I still have to define what that is every time I hear the word. Could be intersting.
ReplyDeleteYour awesome! I love your new song you posted, can't wait for the album! Come to Texas, to do a concert!!
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of a private bloggers concert for the fans. I love intimate settings where I can really feel the music and feel like it is my own quiet moment. Just like when I am listening to CD. I am no the best at marketing and involvement but I love hearing new stuff that I will want to keep listening to. thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou guys rock my world. I love all the comments. I have a lot to learn: podcasting, live video broadcasting, live video chats??? But I WILL LEARN! I definitely think a private show for bloggers would rock. How do I put a cap on that one? I don't want to exclude anyone, but it would be fun to make it small and intimate. Ideas?

ReplyDeletethe live video broadcasting...I've mentioned it before with some of my comments on facebook and maybe here. Anyway, you really could go global with your charity fundraising. In a nutshell...you collaborate with smaller artists and let them be your opening act in areas you cannot reach then broadcast your concert to them. The Bulgarian orphanage fundraiser would have been a great candidate for that because what you would be doing is Global and they need global support. The people at those locations could then collect the money and it could be sent directly to the orphanage or to you. It might be lucrative, and it might not. But I figure if you chose 5 locations and they each advertised and raised only $2000 you have just added $10000 to the pot for the orphanage. It's not a lot, but it is more than you would raise otherwise. You aren't limiting your reach this way...of course, we would all LOVE to see you in concert, but this way makes it more accessible to help with a good cause.
ReplyDeleteI know it's late for the contest, but what about a song writing workshop? Or a Basics-of-Recording workshop? It would also be really fun to see you take a song from conception to the finished product, with all the steps in between. If you ever wanted to do some sort of competition (with the winner doing backup vocals on a song of yours, or just your help in producing a demo, or something else) that could also be a huge draw. I do like the idea of some sort of sneak peek.
