Wannabe

I am a wannabe. A wannabe recording engineer, a wannabe interior designer, a wannabe anthropologist, and lately:
a wannabe photographer.

This is Justin Hackworth. He is the real McCoy.

On Friday afternoon last week, I glanced at Twitter for a split second and saw this tweet from Justin: "Anyone want to assist me at a photo shoot today? Sure could use some help." Without hesitating I posted back a "Yes." These are not Justin's photos (his are WAY better) but rather my documentation of that photo shoot on my iPhone camera.

After seeing the genuine interest and patience that Justin has and the way he makes his subjects feel so at ease, I knew I could never do what he does. I'll stick with writing songs tucked away in my office like a hermit, thank you very much.

I told Justin that if I could get married all over again, I would spend the large part of my budget on the photography. "Everyone always tells me that!" he replied. It's one of the very few tangible things you walk away with to remind you of your wedding
for the rest of your life.

Do you remember this? Maybe you are smack dab in the middle of it right now. How beautiful. Enjoy every minute.

But even more beautiful are my red Converse. Don't you think?

Thanks for the lovely time, Justin and for the portrait you took of me at the very end. To see more of Justin's work, click here.

  4. I posted a comment on the Facebook version of this post too. Anyway... I was just saying that I LOOOOOVE (like REALLY LOOOOVE) the Hipstamatic app! I discovered, quite by accident at the beach yesterday, that if you shake your iPhone, it'll randomly change out the film and lens for you! I bought a couple of Hipstapaks last week so I have a few more lenses and films to choose from, so shaking it up got me some cool varieties.

I LOVE these set of pics... a LOT! Thanks for sharing them!

  6. When my nephew got married a few years ago in San Francisco they came out of the temple, took a couple of group shots, then sent everyone home while they took off to downtown San Fran with their photographer. Their pictures are to die for, and as I remember getting married in San Diego in June I can't help but think, "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!!"

  11. These photos are so lovely, Mindy! And I love that you jumped at the opportunity to assist Justin! It is my life aspiration to someday have Justin take my family's pictures... someday... hopefully sooner, rather than later. He's completely brilliant and I love his style.

  12. Dear Mindy, I am not a working Mom anymore but I have a sweet daughter living in Toronto. We miss her so much and she is so far from home (Utah Valley). SKYPE has been a blessing! She has spent all together about 9 months in Italy too, researching for her doctoral dissertaion. How wonderful it was to sit and chat with her, see her smiling face and watch the sun setting over Tuscany outside of her window while we were eating lunch! If you don't have some, get a couple of webcams now!

  13. I wish I had more pics of my wedding day, and some professional engagement shots. It was something I didn't think I needed, then I thought that I would put the dress back on and go get some a little later. Never happened. sad.
